Susan Dubin

Susan Dubin is a Buffalo Grove resident who likes to find humor in everything she does. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Bill, her son Andrew, the rest of her family and her friends.

Some of Susan's favorite things are sugar cereal, the 'school supplies' aisle, board games, the telephone, Us Weekly magazine and air conditioning.

Susan holds a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MS in Written Communication from National-Louis University.

Currently, Susan is a columnist for the Buffalo Grove Countryside which is a Pioneer Press publication.

Ice Skating Lessons

Well, over this past week I’ve come to the realization that I’m never going to be a world-class ice skater. Here is how I arrived at this conclusion:

First, I haven’t had an ice skating lesson since I was about eight years old. Next, my most impressive ice-skating move is “swizzles” and I’ve never really seen that in any major competition. Lastly, I have noticed that my skating skills aren’t quite on par with the 2005 World Champion Pairs Skaters who have been skating at the Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion.

Eggsperience Pancakes & Café

Last month, my good friend Peter Sakoufakis, along with his brother Nick Sakoufakis and father Tom Sakoufakis opened up Eggsperience Pancakes & Café in Long Grove. And because I really care about the readers of this column, I felt it was my civic duty to go there with a bunch of girlfriends (including Peter’s wife, Dina and my sister, Julie), taste-test as many menu-items as possible and report back to all of you.

New Years Resolutions - 2009

A while back, out of nowhere, I began having stomach problems.  I went to the doctor and she said I was having GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) symptoms.  “You never had this before so it’s probably being caused by something new to your daily diet.  And since you don’t drink alcohol, pop, coffee, tea, have much citrus or eat spicy or fried foods are you eating a lot of some new type of chocolate?”
